Water Emergency Preparedness

In the event of any type of emergency, one of the most important items which you can have is good, clean water for drinking and for food preparation.

Emergency Sources of Water

Sometimes, an emergency will catch you unprepared or last longer than two weeks (i.e. a hurricane). If you have not previously stored water for emergency purposes, you can always drain the water from your house’s plumbing system. You can even use the water from your water heater as long as discard any that has rust or sediment in it.

Once you have drained the water, be sure to use a small amount of chlorine bleach (7 drops per gallon) and let it sit 30 minutes before drinking.
